On water days...
In 2021, the Marine Farming Association in conjunction with Marine Farm Management, the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce and the Nelson Regional Development Agency created a suite of on water days for high school students across Te Tauihi.
These days saw a total of around 200 students out on the water learning about our industry from the experts on board the vessel.
On the trips ex Havelock, the students saw a Salmon Farm and a Mussel Farm.
On the trip ex Nelson, the students saw an Oyster Farm and a Mussel Farm.
There were experts at each location to discuss the range of jobs available within their particular discipline, we also had speakers onboard from NMIT, science & research, business owners, entrepreneurs, skippers and deckhands to talk through what they do and what their career pathways have been to get them to that point.
There was heaps of engagement and questions from the students and some of the students have even landed jobs from networking with our onboard experts from these days.
These were so successful that they will surely be back for future years.
If you or your school are interested in these trips, they will run at the start of each year.
